tOY tOWN iS bACK!!!

Toy Town's doors are open again to bring you more wonderful, creative, and imaginative toys for kids of all ages.  We miss Janet Hammel tremendously but are very thankful that "her baby" has been donated to Penny Park.  That's Right!  The proceeds of Toy Town now benefit Penny Park.  So if having these wonderful games and gadgets wasn't enough, come on down, meet the new store manager, Donna Lawder, and support the park with your purchases.

I thought I'd tell you all a little bit about me!  It is my pleasure to be the new manager of Toy Town, continuing the great work of Janet Hammel, and to help this beloved Silver City institution thrive, to the benefit of our community, our town and our Penny Park.

The GIFTTT Board of Directors offered me this position just before the store's Grand Re-Opening over Memorial Day weekend.  I could not have been more thankful, as I felt such excitement during my interview, realizing that my unique set of skills could be just what
Toy Town needed.  Besides, I knew I'd love the job and have a blast!

I have a long history in retail, having been professionally trained as a Retail Sales Manager, "back in the day" at Abraham and Straus, the great old northeast department store chain.  I built my skills over the years, adding journalism to the mix, working in retail management and marketing positions for a variety of companies.  Most recently, I served as Marketing Director and Regional Manager for Wild Oats Market, the second largest specialty grocery chain in the country.  There, I trained hundreds of stafers, worked with non-profits, created classes, workshops and special events, and helped open numerous new stores for the company.

My promotional and coordinating skills are really coming into play at Toy Town these days, as I endeavor to come up with fun, creative ways to bring new people and new groups into the store, to continue Janet's relationships with our local schools and children's programs, and to keep things ever new and fresh for our store's long-time devotees!  It is a challenge I am loving to meet, every day.

I met Janet Hammel only once, and I did not get to know her well. She took ill for the last time shortly after my husband, Wally, and I  moved to Silver City.  But one could hardly live in Silver and not know of Janet and the great things she did and the great lady she was.  It is my pleasure to re-birth Toy Town and carry it forward.  I think Janet would be overjoyed to see her beloved store alive and well.  And I know she, of all people, would see how much I love it.

Please come visit Toy Town soon.  I'd love to meet you and show you what's new!

Best,

Donna Lawder
