Outlaws and Indians

 

WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE YOU TO THE PLACES THAT BEGAN 4 CENTURIES AGO THE REMINDERS OF OUR FRONTIER AND ITS ROLE IN THE SETTLEMENT OF THE TRUE WEST.

 

Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th Calvary were called to New Mexico ‘s Black Range and Southwest  N.M. to establish law and order from the raiding Apaches  like the war Chief Victorio of the Warm Spring Apaches , and  the Outlaws Bean Belly Smith, Russian Jack, Flora Belle, Happy Bob Fambo, Curley Bill, Bill the Kid some of which  among those passing through the Ghost Town of Shakespeare .

Go where a horse thieves like Black Jack Ketchum  once stole horses and mules.  The Mogollon Mountains became the hangout for the notorious “Wild Bunch” and “ The Mountain Man” Ben Lilly as ledged , who killed over 100 Mountain Lions.  In 1890’s the W.S. Ranch became the headquarters for “Butch Cassidy’ and the “ Sundance Kid” part of the “Wild Bunch’!

  Also to protect  the borders against Mexican Banditti’s such as Famed Poncho Villa , so Calvary camps were set up around Hatchita and Columbus, N.M..  You can still see old evidences of camps.

 Cochise fought the Mexicans in 1832 on the Gila River.  Nana  an Apache was born in Mimbres around 1800 and married a sister of Geronimo who was the leader of the last American Indian fighting force to capitulate to the US.

 You may chose to go see rich archeological resources with petroglyphs leaving clues  about how they once thrived in the primitive beauty of our forest and desserts.  We now have permission on a couple area  Private Ranches for our Tours which have the Indian Ruins that we can share with our Guests.  Of course we can only look and feel the environment of long ago can only take the memory with you leaving all ancient artifacts.
